Sebastiano d’Ayala Valva (London, United Kingdom, 1978) was born to an Italian father and an English mother. He lives in Paris where in 2003, he graduated from the Institut d’études politiques. Since 2005, he wrote and directed several documentaries, mainly for French broadcasters such as Public Sénat and Arte. Transvestites Also Cry (2007), Angel (2009), Adapté(s) (2012), Performants Autrement (2016). His documentary La Casa del Padre (2009) was screened at Torino Film Festival. His first feature length documentary “The First Motion of the Immovable” (2018) was broadcast on ARTE La Lucarne and has won several awards, including Best First Appearance Award at IDFA and a special mention at the Turin Film Festival. He has since directed the documentary “Leo” (2020) and “Farewell to the Father” (2020). In 2023, he directed “Standing Waves”, a short documentary about the creation of an orchestral piece by composers Eliane Radigue and Carol Robinson, for the German network SWR. He is currently working on three documentaries : “Monsieur Antoine”, “T21” and “Brava Gente”.
